About Blood Thinning Medication....?

I had some leftover blood thinning shot from a pregnancy.I was taking them because of a DVT...I still have problems with the leg the clot was in and now they other leg is being effected.(swelling and pain)I wear compression stockings but they don really help...So my main question is....is it bad to be taking a shot once a week to thin the blood and not going to the dr. to get blood tested?Besides bleeding what other effects could it have on my body?I dont have any medical insurance so I cant get anything checked out....REAL ANSWERS PLEASE...Thanks.
